It’s important to us that you understand that we do not like or agree with Halloween. Like anything we do, this is an opportunity for us to share Jesus. Halloween promotes themes like darkness, fear, and death, which are opposite to the Christian values of light, faith, and life. On this day you never see people decorating their homes with virtues of light and life, but things that instill fear and darkness. As Christians we don't celebrate fear; we celebrate faith.
The origin of Halloween was celebrated on November 1st as All Saints Day, a feast day, to celebrate all the Christian saints. The night before was called All Hallows Day or All Hallows Eve, that was then shortened to Halloween in the 16th century. Because this celebration back then was moved from a springs date to a fall date, it happened to coincide with a celtic festival, Samhaim, which commemorates the dead. This is where the Halloween traditions of wearing masks, telling ghost stories, etc. sprung from and became mixed together. Our pastor looked into the word “Halloween” and the word “hallow” means to make holy, set apart for holy use and the word “ween” means to hold an opinion or believe something. So you can see how the devil has taken a word that is actually good and twisted it into something dark. We do not want to allow the devil to have this day and for that reason, we have this faith-filled, family friendly alternative to shine Jesus’ light!
