WHAT IS A CHILD Dedication?
A child dedication is a time in the service where parents publicly commit to raising their child according to Christian principles and seek the church's support in their parenting journey. This event emphasizes the responsibility of parents to nurture their child's spiritual upbringing while recognizing the child as a gift from God.
WHAT IS THE Purpose of A child Dedication?
The primary purpose of child dedication is to present the chlld before God and the church as a gift from God, under our responsibility. For parents, this is also a public declaration that their intentions are to raise their child(ren) in a way that honors God. (“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6)
AT WHAT Age IS A child DEDICATION?
Generally, baby dedications are conducted for young babies, as we want to pray over them for protection and provision early on. However, we do want to extend the age limit to include older children whose parents haven’t had a chance to pray over them in this setting, with the commitment being made publicly by the parents in front of the church community—therefore, there is no age limit.
PRAYING OVER THEM
During the service, we pray over parents and their child(ren), emphasizing their duty and pledge to pray for their children, teach them about Jesus, and demonstrate a Godly lifestyle.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We’ve all heard the phrase “it takes a village” and it really does! A church family means being able to count on people who intercede for your family in prayer and provide encouragement—having people in your corner makes all the difference.
